About Us
Our Mission Statement
The Bangali Students Association (BSA) is a diverse group of students at the University of California, Los Angeles, organized to educate and increase awareness of Bangali culture, language, and history on campus. We hope to organize cultural, recreational, and community outreach programs to increase awareness and encourage unity amongst Bangali students on campus and in the greater LA community.
History of BSA
Bangali Students Association at UCLA was founded in December of 2014 with a vision to create a place for Bangali students on UCLA campus as well as providing more Bangali representation throughout the entire UCLA community. We at BSA believe that Bangla language, and Bangali society and culture transcend nation-state boundaries. Therefore, we are inclusive of everyone who identify as Bangali or are interested in learning about Bangla and Bangali culture.
BSA's first event was was a General Body Meeting in December of 2014 with several potential new members. Today, BSA at UCLA has grown to host events with 75+ attendees. Some of our regularly hosted events include Rannaghor socials, Bangla school, game nights, study nights, samosa fundraisers, and henna fundraisers. Our more popular annual events include our Ekushey February event, Pohela Boishakh event, Retreat, and End-of-the-Year Banquet. BSA at UCLA also works with the greater Bangali community in LA to explore family histories through our Oral History Archive. We also collaborate with other South Asian organizations on UCLA campus for South Asian Heritage week to build solidarity, spread awareness, and celebrate our heritage together. For philanthropy, BSA at UCLA has held fundraisers with the JAAGO Foundation and partners with Connect Students Around the World (CSAW) to teach kids English in Bangladesh.
